British Glass calls for pause on Welsh DRS glass inclusion. British Glass has called for a pause in the legislative process for Wales’s deposit return scheme, which proposes to include glass beverage packaging from October 2027. The trade body says key questions remain unanswered on producer costs and how the scheme will interact with pEPR.

Glass containers in the Welsh DRS would carry a zero pence deposit until October 2031, during which time no revenue from unredeemed deposits would be available. British Glass warns this could mean producers pay twice if DRS and kerbside collection systems are not aligned. The organisation has raised its concerns with the Senedd Climate Change, Environment and Infrastructure Committee and the Legislation, Justice and Constitution Committee.
