RECOUP has announced its 2022 Plastics Resource and Recycling Annual Conference, which will take place at the Kingsgate Conference Centre in Peterborough, on 29 September.

The day will consist of three conference sessions – ‘Plastics Resource and Recycling – Are We On Track?’, ‘Right Material, Right Place, Right Approach’, and ‘The Future, Innovation and Leadership’ – with keynote speakers and networking opportunities, as well as lunch and refreshments. The event will cater for both a live web feed and in-person attendance.

A pre-conference dinner will be held the evening before at the Holiday Inn Peterborough West, an ‘extra chance to network with colleagues from the plastics resource and recycling sector.’ According to RECOUP, there is the option to sponsor the conference or the pre-conference dinner. Those interested are encouraged to contact rebecca.davis@recoup.org for more details.

With limited places, RECOUP urges those wishing to attend to book a ticket as soon as possible. Conference guests wishing to attend the dinner and stay over for the evening can benefit from a discounted rate secured with Holiday Inn Peterborough West.

For more information, please visit the event page on RECOUP’s website.

How will the government and DMOs address the challenges of including glass in DRS while ensuring a level playing field across the UK?

There's no easy solution to include glass in the DRS while maintaining a level playing field. Potential approaches include a phased introduction of glass, potentially with higher deposits to reflect its logistical challenges. The government and DMOs could incentivise innovation in glass packaging design and subsidise dedicated return points for glass-handling. Exemptions for smaller businesses unable to handle glass might also be necessary. Any successful solution will likely blend several approaches. It must address the differing priorities of devolved administrations, balance environmental benefits with logistical and cost implications, and be supported by robust consumer education campaigns emphasizing the importance of glass recycling.
