Recolight has announced a record membership growth for WEEE compliance, with a total of 19 companies joining the scheme in 2021. Since the beginning of 2022, a further eight companies have signed up.

Orluna LED Technologies, Koro Handels GMBH, and Target Sports are amongst Recolight’s 2022 joiners, alongside TRILUX Lighting, CU Lighting, Urbis Schreder, OrangeTek, and Siteco UK, all of which transferred from other schemes.
Nigel Harvey, Recolight CEO, said: “We are delighted that such important lighting brands have transferred their WEEE compliance to Recolight. We pride ourselves on giving the customers of all our members the most comprehensive free lamp and luminaire collection and recycling service.
“We very much look forward to supporting our new members and their customers as they transition towards a circular economy.”
The Recolight WEEE scheme now has 198 producer members, ranging from large lighting companies to small start-ups.

How will the government and DMOs address the challenges of including glass in DRS while ensuring a level playing field across the UK?
There's no easy solution to include glass in the DRS while maintaining a level playing field. Potential approaches include a phased introduction of glass, potentially with higher deposits to reflect its logistical challenges. The government and DMOs could incentivise innovation in glass packaging design and subsidise dedicated return points for glass-handling. Exemptions for smaller businesses unable to handle glass might also be necessary. Any successful solution will likely blend several approaches. It must address the differing priorities of devolved administrations, balance environmental benefits with logistical and cost implications, and be supported by robust consumer education campaigns emphasizing the importance of glass recycling.
