Tender for resource efficiency advice service

The Welsh Government has launched a tendering process for a framework contract that calls on suppliers to provide specific pieces of work on boosting resource and energy efficiency.

Under the framework, applicants will need to provide advice and support to the public, businesses, communities, and the domestic and third sectors on how to boost resource efficiency.

The framework contract will be let for a period of four years with the option to initiate a break after three years.

Responses to the tender need to be submitted by 2pm on 27 January 2014.

Temple Group acquires The Ecology Consultancy

Environment Consultancy Temple Group has announced that it has acquired The Ecology Consultancy.

The companies have worked together in the past, collaborating on projects such as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and High Speed 2, as well as on infrastructure projects, renewable energy and residential and building developments.

The Ecology Consultancy will continue to be managed and led by its current Managing Director, John Newton, and will keep its separate brand and identity.

Speaking of the acquisition, Mark Southwood, Managing Director of Temple Group, said: "It's a win-win for clients and staff. Bringing these two great teams together will further enhance Temple’s reputation as a top-tier leader in the environment, planning and sustainability arena.

Recolight appoints new Membership Development Manager

WEEE compliance scheme for the lighting industry Recolight has appointed Adrian Willis as its new Membership Development Manager.

Willis joins Recolight from the UK component distributor Prime Light Electrical Ltd. He has worked in the UK lighting industry for the last 18 years.

Welcoming Willis to the team, Recolight CEO Nigel Harvey said: “Adrian’s wealth of experience working in the lighting industry makes him a valuable addition to the Recolight team.

“Adrian will play an integral role in ensuring our existing members are kept abreast of developments in the industry, which will be especially important with the introduction of the updated WEEE Regulations. He will also help to build Recolight’s membership across all sectors of the lighting industry for the future.”

Waste companies fined for illegal waste offences

Two waste companies have been fined a total of £20,000 plus costs of £2,079 at Newtownards Magistrates' Court in Northern Ireland today (13 December).

The court heard that during a site visit in December 2012, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) discovered non-compliant waste being deposited by IRS Recycling Ltd at TIPCO’s inert landfill site at Drumhirk Way, Conlig, Bangor, thus breaching conditions of their waste authorisation.

TIPCO Ltd pleaded guilty to one charge of keeping and treating waste on land without a waste management licence and one charge of contravening the conditions of its waste permit.

IRS Recycling Ltd pleaded guilty to one charge of depositing and knowingly permitting waste to be deposited in or on land without a waste management licence.

ESE World appoints new MD

Dave Hughes has been appointed Managing Director of ESE World Ltd, the UK division of ESE World BV group, a manufacturer of temporary waste storage systems.

Hughes was formerly National Commercial Sales Manager at waste management company SITA UK, and succeeds Derek Monk, who steered the UK company through the transition from its sale by the Otto Group to become ESE World Ltd. Hughes has 30 years’ experience in the waste management and recycling industry in senior sales and operational roles.

Speaking of his appointment, Hughes said: “We are going to drive the ESE brand forward and I’m looking forward to building on the excellent reputation the company has for temporary storage solutions, developing new products as demand in the market changes for more complex and bespoke requirements.”

ESE World produces plastic wheelie bins, underground and semi-underground waste systems, hazardous and clinical waste containers, and public furnishing equipment including litter bins and housings.
