Greg Clemenston (pictured right) has become the new Managing Director of battery collection and recycling company, G & P Batteries.

The former Commercial Director has taken over the role from Michael Green, who is taking up a new role as Special Projects Director.

According to G & P, Clemenston will be continuing to work to develop the company into ‘a world-class facility and as the recognized expert for the collection and consolidation of waste batteries in the UK’.

Clemenston said: “I’m delighted to be taking over the mantle of MD, a role that Michael has embraced passionately over the last 18 years. For our customers and suppliers it will be very much ‘business as usual’ but I will be striving to ensure that G & P stays ahead of the game.”

There are also two other new members to G & P’s senior team: David Brookes has joined the company as Site Operations Manager after 25 years managing tyre production with Goodyear/Dunlop; and Adam Williams has become Head of Finance.

How will the government and DMOs address the challenges of including glass in DRS while ensuring a level playing field across the UK?

User Avatar

There's no easy solution to include glass in the DRS while maintaining a level playing field. Potential approaches include a phased introduction of glass, potentially with higher deposits to reflect its logistical challenges. The government and DMOs could incentivise innovation in glass packaging design and subsidise dedicated return points for glass-handling. Exemptions for smaller businesses unable to handle glass might also be necessary. Any successful solution will likely blend several approaches. It must address the differing priorities of devolved administrations, balance environmental benefits with logistical and cost implications, and be supported by robust consumer education campaigns emphasizing the importance of glass recycling.
