“For example,” says Sales and Marketing Director, Peter Dugdale, “our customer, Biffa, needed a fast backup service to cope with any missed/late collections. So, we required a side-loading column bin lift with a short loading cycle to tip directly into the Isuzu N75 chosen for the job.”

“We chose the BL150 bin lift from Access XL because it is fast, quiet, and easy to use with household wheely bins for loads up to 150kg. It has a short loading cycle and the safety system continually holds the bin in place.

“It is well-engineered, robust and fool-proof,” he adds, “exactly what our customers need to maintain an efficient, reliable and low-cost service.”

Prewired, with its own hydraulic PTO powerpack and optional cab switch, the lift is quick and easy to retrofit. Also, the galvanised steel frame and parts protect against corrosion, for a longer working life.

“We now have ten in service,” says Peter Dugdale. “The Access XL lift has done a great job and continues to impress.”

How will the government and DMOs address the challenges of including glass in DRS while ensuring a level playing field across the UK?

There's no easy solution to include glass in the DRS while maintaining a level playing field. Potential approaches include a phased introduction of glass, potentially with higher deposits to reflect its logistical challenges. The government and DMOs could incentivise innovation in glass packaging design and subsidise dedicated return points for glass-handling. Exemptions for smaller businesses unable to handle glass might also be necessary. Any successful solution will likely blend several approaches. It must address the differing priorities of devolved administrations, balance environmental benefits with logistical and cost implications, and be supported by robust consumer education campaigns emphasizing the importance of glass recycling.
