Nigel Harvey named Lux Person of the Year 2012

Nigel Harvey, CEO of the UK's specialist WEEE lamp compliance scheme Recolight, was named Lux Person of the Year at the second annual Lux Awards on 6 November.

One of 16 awards handed out at the ceremony at the National History Museum, the Lux Person of the Year award was specially decided by a panel of lighting industry experts. Nigel Harvey won the award in recognition of his integral role in the ‘enormous success of Recolight’.

Recolight is a not-for-profit organisation, which has funded the recycling of over 125 million lamps since it began in 2007 and has reportedly prevented a third of a tonne of mercury from going to landfill.

Lux Person of the Year, Nigel Harvey, said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been given this award which I dedicate to the team at Recolight, our members, collection points and partners, all of whom work tirelessly to keep this hazardous waste stream out of landfill.

“It is a great accolade for the lighting industry as a whole that we are leading the way when it comes to the management of business waste electrical and electronic equipment. We are completely committed to building on this success for the future.”

The Lux Awards were founded in 2011 to recognize and celebrate achievements in the lighting industry. The ceremony is the highlight of the annual Lux Live exhibition, organized by Lux magazine and the Lighting Industry Association (LIA), which took place at Earls Court yesterday and today (6 and 7 November).

The awards take into account major lighting users such as retailers, developers, manufacturers, and transport and infrastructure providers. They also consider public sector lighting professionals such as designers, architects, consulting engineers, contractors and distributors.
