Resource Media has supported LARAC's digital presence since 2008. In 2023, as part of a full platform upgrade, we worked closely with the team to modernise the site and align it with current member needs.
The Challenge
Top of the list was making member-only content easier to find, better demonstrating the value of that content to encourage sign-ups, and creating a more active, supportive space for local authority professionals to connect and share insights.
What we did
Before migrating the site from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9, we ran discovery workshops with LARAC staff and members, supported by an analytics audit and user survey, to understand what different user groups needed from the platform.
We introduced clear secondary navigation for member-only content and redesigned the homepage to feature live forum activity. A key decision was allowing non-members to see previews of member content - demonstrating value to encourage sign-ups. We also introduced category-based search and built custom Mailchimp integration for weekly forum digests to drive sustained engagement.

The Results
The upgraded site has contributed to a 24% increase of individual local authority members and an increase in website traffic of 69%.
