Designing, building and maintaining a website to connect with residents across North London’s seven boroughs, to encourage sustainable behaviours and access to guidance on recycling .
The Challenge
The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) wanted to improve public understanding of recycling; a proven lever for increased recycling rates.
As an organisation with ambitions to lead on sustainability and service delivery, NLWA needed a refreshed brand and a modern, resident-focused website to bring together its corporate and public-facing content.
They came to us as sector specialists to make this happen.
What we did
We started by re-examining NLWA’s brand - clarifying its purpose, refining its core proposition, and creating consistent, accessible messaging and design prinicples that would work across all channels.
With a strategic focus on providing practical local information and inspiring change, we merged the corporate and resident-facing websites into one intuitive Drupal platform, tailored to meet the needs of both residents and stakeholders across North London.

The Results
Since launch in 2019, NLWA has seen a significant increase in website traffic and user engagement. Time spent on the site is up, and inbound queries have dropped, showing that residents are finding the answers they need quickly and easily.
The site is now a trusted source of information and inspiration, helping local people take action to reduce their waste and recycle more, all while supporting NLWA’s wider communications and policy work.

The brand and website that we delivered for NLWA prioritised relevance, resonance and access. From promoting local reuse and repair events to making complex guidance easy to follow, the site inspires and empowers residents to make sustainable choices, while also delivering the statutory and corporate content required.
